The President of Mexico refused to go to the Summit of the Americas in the United States

Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador refused to go to the Summit of the Americas in the United States. Instead, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will attend the event.

“I want to inform the people of Mexico that I will not go to the summit, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will represent the government. I will not go because all the countries of America are not invited,” the head of state told reporters.

Obrador added that he believes in the need to change the policy that has been established for centuries – the policy of exclusion, the desire for dominance without any reason and disrespect for the sovereignty and independence of each country.

“There can’t be a Summit of the Americas if all the countries of the Americas don’t participate,” the Mexican leader said.

As the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reported earlier, there was a real threat of disruption to the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles on June 6-10.

The New York Times noted that the potential refusal to come to the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles by the presidents of Mexico and Brazil, Andres Manuel López Obrador and Jair Bolsonaro, could be a humiliating blow for Biden.

President of Honduras Siomara Castro said that she would attend the summit if representatives of all countries of the region were invited there. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel intends to boycott the summit.
