The decision taken by the German authorities to freeze the certification process for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline can be considered unworthy. With this rhenium, Germany positions itself as an unreliable economic partner, Russian Ambassador to Mexico Viktor Koronelli believes.
“From the point of view of international trade law, the decision of the German authorities to freeze the process of certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is unacceptable and unworthy. This is a classic example of using a commercial project as a political weapon against Russia,” Coronelli said at a briefing in Mexico City.
The diplomat believes that such a decision will cause damage to Russia and Germany, and the responsibility, in this case, will be entirely on Germany.
“Responsibility for the consequences of these illegitimate actions, which cast doubt on Germany’s reputation as a reliable economic partner, lies entirely with the German side. In this context, the inalienable right of the project investors is lawsuits against the relevant authorities in Berlin before international arbitration courts to obtain compensation,” – the Russian ambassador comments.
The ambassador says that stopping the gas pipeline project will entail not only violations of the bills, but also a rapid rise in gas prices on the European market.
“We are already seeing this – the cost has risen from 900 to more than 2,000 euros per thousand cubic meters in 10 days and will continue to grow to the detriment of European citizens,” says Coronelli.
