The US military killed a local IS leader in Somalia.

The US military has carried out an offensive in Somalia, eliminating a number of militants of the Islamic State terrorist group, including the local IS leader, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

“The US military launched an offensive in northern Somalia that killed several IS members, including Bilal al-Sudani, the leader of IS in Somalia and a key coordinator in the IS global network,” the Pentagon chief said in a release statement.

It is noted that al-Sudani was responsible for increasing the presence of ISIS in Africa and for financing terrorist attacks by the Islamic State around the world, including Afghanistan.

The operation took place on January 25 in accordance with the “order of the president.” As a result of the operation, none of the civilians were injured.
