Turkey proposes to transport wounded nationalists from Azovstal by sea

Turkey is ready to evacuate by sea the wounded Ukrainian nationalists and civilians from the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol, said the official representative and chief adviser to the President of Turkey, Ibrahim Kalyn.

“We are ready … Our ship is ready to set off and deliver wounded soldiers and other civilians to Turkey,” Kalyn said.

According to Ankara’s plan, the evacuees will be sent by land to the port of Berdyansk, where they will be picked up by a Turkish ship and delivered to Istanbul. According to Erdogan’s representative, he personally discussed this proposal with Vladimir Zelensky, it “remains on the table”, but Moscow did not agree to it.

As Kalyn notes, this plan is one of a number of proposals for a ceasefire and evacuation. According to the adviser, it can be implemented, but Ankara is waiting for the final decision of Moscow and Kyiv.
