Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announces start of work on food deal

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that work has begun on a “product deal”, and soon the first ship with grain will leave the ports of Ukraine. He said this in an interview with the Qatari TV channel al-Jazeera.

“Work on the “grain deal” has already begun. The first ship with grain will leave the Ukrainian port soon,” Akar said.

In addition, he noted that representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN are working to bring the first ship to sea.

On July 22, Russia signed documents on a “product deal” with the UN and Turkey, which involve lifting restrictions on the supply of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers for export and facilitating the export of Ukrainian grain. Separately, Ukraine signed its part of the agreement with Turkey and the UN.

The joint coordination center in Istanbul will resolve possible incidents during the export of grain through the Black Sea from Ukraine. The UN expects that up to five million tons of grain per month can be exported from Ukrainian ports.
