UK bans hose irrigation to save water

The British counties of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have imposed a temporary ban on the use of irrigation hoses to save water due to a drought caused by heat waves, according to a press release from the private utility Southern Water, published on Friday on its website.

“River flow is about 25% less than the normal July figure, which is equivalent to the loss of water that would be enough for more than 25 million bathtubs … The use of water hoses to water gardens or wash cars will be prohibited, decorative ponds and pools should also not be filled” , says the document.

The ban will take effect on August 5, the statement said.
