US Air Force stops F-35A flights due to technical problems

Flights of the fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighter were suspended by the US Air Force (Air Force) due to problems with the pyromechanism of the ejection seats.

A recent inspection revealed isolated problems with the pilot rescue system. In this regard, the Pentagon has suspended indefinitely the flights of all F-35 Lightning II fighters, there are 349 of them in the US Air Force.

In addition, the operation of United States Navy and Marine Corps fighter jets has been suspended.

It is possible that they will return to service after the weekend.

In July, it became known that as of February of this year, 8% of the fifth generation F-35 Lightning II fighters (36 out of 450) were not able to fly due to problems with the F135 engine.

In November 2021, it was noted that sales of US fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters are facing stiff competition from European combat aircraft manufacturers.
