Sullivan allowed the closure of the embassies in Moscow and Washington in response to a related question and appreciated this possible solution. If it comes true, it will be a “big mistake”. “I can imagine the only reason why the US could be forced to close its embassy: it could be if it would not be safe to continue its work,” he stressed.

The diplomat recalled that earlier Moscow had warned of the danger of breaking off relations with Washington. He noted that such a situation would mean the closure of embassies both in Russia and in the United States. Sullivan expressed the hope that this would not happen.
