US Senator Menendez called Turkey one of the main world threats

US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez called Turkey the biggest threat in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The US senator included Turkey among the main challenges facing the international community, along with China, Russia and climate change.

Despite being a NATO ally, Turkey is challenging Greek sovereignty with “provocative flights in the Aegean,” he said.

He called the violation of airspace by fighters unacceptable behavior for any state.
Menendez also spoke of Turkey’s “illegal occupation” of Cyprus.

“This is not the action of a democratic country, and as for me, I do not think that they should be provided with modernized weapons systems from the United States,” he added.

Menendez accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of pursuing a divisive policy both in Eastern Europe and in the South Caucasus and Europe.

Earlier, Greece published 16 maps showing Turkey’s illegal actions against Greek sovereignty in the Aegean. According to a statement from the ministry, the maps show in detail “the extent of Turkish revisionism aimed at changing the status quo, violating international law and international maritime law, and threatening the peace, security and stability of the region.”
