US strikes IRGC-linked facilities in Syria

The US armed forces have attacked infrastructure facilities in Deir ez-Zor, which are used by groups associated with the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This was reported by the press service of the Central Command (CENTCOM) of the US Army.

“At the direction of President [Joe] Biden, the US military launched precision strikes today (Tuesday) in Deir ez-Zor, Syria. <…> US strikes were carried out on infrastructure facilities used by groups associated with the IRGC, ”the ministry said.

The facilities were attacked to protect personnel from attacks “like those on August 15,” CENTCOM said. The command blames paramilitary groups allegedly supported by Tehran for the strikes. The military considered the response “proportionate” and explained that the strikes were needed to reduce the risk of escalation and the appearance of new victims.

CENTCOM spokesman Colonel Joe Buccino said the strikes targeted 11 bunkers where the group’s ammunition and equipment were stored.
