US submits new resolution to UNSC facilitating humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

The United States has presented to the UN Security Council (UNSC) a new version of the resolution on facilitating humanitarian aid to Afghanistan for one year.

The refreshed version was presented after the first draft was rejected by China, Russia, France and the United Kingdom. On Tuesday, the US has submitted a new draft of the international document, but it was rejected.

The point is the 2015 resolution imposed sanctions on Taliban-related entities, while the recent document offers to support Afghanistan where the new government is the Taliban, in fact.

According to the new draft, for a period of one year, humanitarian assistance and other activities that support basic human needs in Afghanistan are not a violation of the above-mentioned 2015 resolution.

In his effort to clarify the situation, China’s UN Ambassador, Zhang Jun, in a tweet said the humanitarian aid and life-saving assistance must be able to reach the Afghan people without any hindrance. The Chinese diplomat added as well that the artificially created conditions or restrictions are not acceptable.
