Venus Williams ‘at fault’ in fatal car crash, say Florida police

Venus Williams appeared in the police records of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida – the tennis star caused a car crash on 9 June. Unfortunately, it led to the death of a passenger in another vehicle.

Florida police have released a report, in which they shed light on the car incident with Venus Williams who caused the car crash two weeks ago. On Thursday, Palm Beach Gardens police said in their statement that there are witnesses who described policemen that fatal situation on the road.

On 9 June, Venus Williams ran a red light in her Toyota Sequoia SUV, causing a fatal crash – a passenger in another vehicle, 79-year-old Jerome Barson, was injured and died two weeks later.

The report of Palm Beach Gardens police reads that Hyundai Accent driven by Barson’s wife, Linda, crashed into the side of Williams’ SUV. Mrs Barson told investigators she was approaching to make a correct manoeuvre on the road but was unable to stop in time. Linda Barson got moderate injuries while her husband died, Venus Williams was not hurt.

Tennis legend has been experiencing the tough time since June 9, she hoped for soon recovering of Mr Barson. Moreover, on June 17, Venus turned 37, and that her special day wasn’t too joyful because of the car crash and its saddest consequences.

The crash remains under investigation. Williams, who has a residence in Palm Beach Gardens, has not been cited or charged. The report says the former world No1 was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Williams’ attorney, Malcolm Cunningham, said in a statement that Williams expressed “her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one”.
