Baku will provide resettlement in 20 settlements of Karabakh by the end of the year.

By the end of the year, Baku will ensure the resettlement of citizens and create all the necessary infrastructure in at least 20 settlements of Karabakh,  Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

“We are implementing large-scale programs in all liberated lands. Today, Shusha is already the sixth settlement where former displaced persons are returning. Today, the return of former displaced persons to the village of Sus, Lachin district is also envisaged. By the end of the year, life will be restored in at least 20 settlements,” – Aliyev said on Friday at the ceremony of presenting keys to apartments to the first residents who returned to Shusha.


The Azerbaijani authorities plan to return 20 thousand citizens of the country, former internally displaced persons, to Karabakh by the end of 2024. In 2024, Baku plans to spend $2.4 billion on restoration work in Karabakh. In 2022, Yerevan and Baku, through the mediation of Russia, the United States and the EU, began discussing a future peace treaty. At the end of May last year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan is ready to recognize the sovereignty of Azerbaijan within Soviet borders.
