Dutch police detained 125 people while dispersing a pro-Palestinian demonstration.

Dutch police dispersed pro-Palestinian demonstrators who had set up a tent camp on the Ruterseiland campus of the University of Amsterdam. 125 people were detained.

The police, prosecutor’s office and municipality made the corresponding decision “due to violations of public order“, the broadcasting corporation claims. The university asked the demonstrators to disperse several times, but not all protesters agreed. A special police unit arrived at the scene at about three o’clock in the morning, after 1.5 hours the action was over, most of the people were taken away on buses.

In the evening, about 10 unknown people attacked the tent camp. They beat the demonstrators and also launched fireworks and firecrackers in their direction. Before this, supporters of Israel came into confrontation with the protesters.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators set up a tent camp Monday afternoon. They called on the University of Amsterdam and other higher education institutions in the Dutch capital, including the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University College of Amsterdam, to end their relations with Israel.

Similar demonstrations have taken place in recent weeks at several universities around the world. The largest of them are in the USA.
