Scholz said he plans to talk to Putin in the near future.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.

“I plan to do it again (to communicate) in the near future,” the chancellor said on Saturday at the 38th convention of the Protestant church in Nuremberg.

Scholz also added that a necessary condition for a “just peace”, in his opinion, is the withdrawal of Russia’s troops from the territory of Ukraine.
According to the agency, in the room where the discussion was held, shouts of “negotiations” were heard from time to time. In response, the chancellor said that “negotiations – okay, the question is who and with whom is negotiating, as well as about what.”

As German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit told reporters in February, despite the difference in opinions about the conflict in Ukraine, the German authorities consider it necessary to maintain regular contact with the Russian Federation “in the hope of some progress.”

The last time Scholz and Putin spoke by phone was in December last year.
