The British Navy reported a firefight off the coast of Yemen.

The British Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) of the British Navy reported on social media X that a boarding attempt and shootout occurred between the vessel and unknown persons on a small boat 195 nautical miles from the Yemeni port of Aden.

The UKMTO previously reported an attack on a vessel in the area, but no further information was provided.

“The captain of a motor vessel reported the approach of a small vessel with 5-6 people on board with weapons and ladders. The motor vessel took self-defense measures, then persons on board the small vessel opened fire on the motor vessel. An armed security team returned fire, and the small vessel stopped approaching “, the department said in a statement.

It is noted that the ship and crew were not injured, the ship is heading to the next port of call.

UKMTO advised vessels to navigate the area with caution and report any suspicious activity.

The ruling Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement in northern Yemen, which controls most of Yemen’s Red Sea coast, previously announced its support for Palestine and its intention to attack any ships associated with Israel, calling on other countries to recall their crews from them and not approach them in the sea. At the same time, they stated that they do not interfere with freedom of navigation in the region and do not interfere with ships of other countries. Amid the attacks in the Red Sea, some companies have decided to suspend transportation through the Red Sea.
