The British Navy reported an attack on a merchant ship off the coast of Yemen.

The British Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) of the British Navy reported on social media X that a merchant ship was attacked off the coast of the Yemeni port of Aden.

“UKMTO received a report of an incident 82 nautical miles (about 152 kilometers) south of Aden, Yemen. The captain of a merchant vessel reported two explosions near the merchant vessel,” the department said in a statement.

According to the ship’s captain, the ship and crew are safe and authorities are investigating.

UKMTO advised vessels to navigate the area with caution and report any suspicious activity.

The ruling Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement in northern Yemen, which controls most of Yemen’s Red Sea coast, previously announced its support for Palestine and its intention to attack any ships associated with Israel, calling on other countries to recall their crews from them and not approach them in the sea. At the same time, they stated that they do not interfere with freedom of navigation in the region and do not interfere with ships of other countries. Amid the attacks in the Red Sea, some companies have decided to suspend transportation through the Red Sea.
