The US has expanded sanctions against Russia

The statement of the US Treasury says that the United States has expanded sanctions against Russia. As specified, seven individuals and one legal entity were included in the lists.

As the US department explained, the basis for sanctions against these individuals was allegedly “malicious influence due to their role in the Russian campaign to destabilize the situation in Moldova.” They are also credited with links to Russian intelligence.

“The sanctions imposed today shed light on the ongoing covert efforts of the Russian Federation to destabilize democratic countries. Russian influence operations exploit the interests of citizens of these countries in order to destabilize legitimately elected governments in the interests of Moscow,” said Brian Nelson, deputy head of the US Treasury Department for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence.

According to him, the United States, along with the European Union, “remain committed to taking measures against persons who are involved in such activities to the detriment of the interests of the Moldovan government.”
