To move around Paris during the Olympics, mandatory QR codes will be introduced.

Mandatory QR codes will be introduced to move around Paris during the Summer Olympic Games, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said.

We are talking about the week before the official opening ceremony of the games, which will take place on July 26 on the Seine.

“All residents of houses on the embankments, as well as everyone who intends to stay here, will need to receive a free QR code. To move around Paris during this week, there will be five options for pedestrians and motorists. It will be possible to cross the city by car from north to south without registration, but to get to the Louvre, the Ile de la Cité or Saint-Louis, you will need to register on a special website of the prefecture,” the minister said.

According to him, the measure will affect “terrorist threat zones,” including around museums and train stations, and will affect about 20 thousand residents of the embankments, as well as 200 thousand traders and employees. You will be able to receive QR codes after May 10.

As the minister noted, movement around the city will be impossible after 13:00 on the opening day of the Olympics.

Earlier, Darmanen recalled that about 600 thousand fans in Paris will watch the opening ceremony. Of these, 104 thousand people will watch the event from the lower embankments, 222 thousand will be located on the upper embankments. In addition, 200 thousand people will watch the ceremony from barges or balconies, 50 thousand from large screens in equipped fan zones.
