Ukrainian T-64 tanks will undergo modernization in the Czech Republic.

The Czech firm VOP CZ, which manufactures and maintains armored vehicles, will modernize an “unnamed for security reasons” number of Ukrainian T-64 tanks, Mark Shpok, director of the firm, said on Tuesday.

“The tanks will be equipped with optical observation devices, modern means of communication, and so on,” Shpok told.

According to the director of the enterprise, the tanks have been in storage for decades. The cars are in need of a major overhaul.

The agreement between VOP CZ and Ukroboronprom was concluded on February 8 this year. Cooperation provides for the production of military equipment, an increase in the production of ammunition of various calibers, the development of service hubs for maintenance and repair, as well as cooperation in the field of high technologies.

On November 18, Ukroboronprom announced that it would produce and develop heavy weapons and military equipment jointly with at least six NATO countries, in particular, Poland, the Czech Republic, France, and Denmark. The state concern noted that they are creating joint defense enterprises, building closed-cycle ammunition production lines, jointly producing armored vehicles and multiple rocket launchers, and jointly developing new high-tech weapons.
