Xi Jinping called on the EU to deepen strategic cooperation with China.

China and the EU must deepen cooperation and trust, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a trilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

“China and the EU should firmly adhere to the position of partnership, firmly adhere to dialogue and cooperation, deepen strategic cooperation, promote strategic mutual trust,” he was quoted as saying by China Central Television.

Beijing and Brussels should develop strategic cooperation, promote healthy and stable development of relations, and continuously contribute to peace and development, the Chinese leader stressed.

Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrived in Paris the day before on a state visit. This is his first trip to France in five years. As part of his European tour, which will last from May 5-10, the Chinese President will also visit Serbia and Hungary.
