Araqchi explained why Iran’s Supreme Leader does not appear in public

Iran’s Supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei does not appear in public due to security measures and on the recommendations of relevant authorities, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.

“He is very closely involved in the processes and influences the development of events in the country, holding the reins of government. However, for security reasons, the (relevant) authorities do not recommend appearing in person to a greater extent,” the minister told the Lebanese TV channel Al-Mayadeen, the transcript of his conversation is provided by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

At the same time, Araqchi added that the Iranian government is in constant contact with the country’s leader.

The head of the protocol service of the office of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Mazaher Hosseini, earlier said that Mojtaba Khamenei was on the mend – he had a back injury, knee, and a laceration behind his ear.

Mojtaba Khamenei replaced his father, Ali Khamenei, as supreme leader, who died on the first day of the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which began on February 28. The new leader has not yet appeared in public since his election to the top leadership position on the night of March 9, but since then his press service has published several messages on behalf of the leader.
