Brussels is reacting to Ukraine’s deteriorating position at the front by preparing for a world war, and Hungary is in favor of a peaceful settlement, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said.

“Brussels is reacting by preparing for a world war to the increasingly deteriorating situation at the front for Ukraine,” Szijjártó told Hungarian journalists after a meeting of the heads of the EU Foreign and Defense Ministries in Luxembourg.

According to him, the meeting was similar to a “meeting of military leaders at headquarters,” since for several hours “almost everyone was talking about how many units of what weapons and on what schedule they are ready to supply Ukraine” from almost empty warehouses.

Szijjártó stressed that so far, arms supplies to Ukraine have not contributed to its successes at the front, but, “on the contrary, have led to a worsening of the situation.” “The question is why, if the strategy didn’t work before, should it work now? … We think that the supply of weapons only leads to prolongation of the war and an increase in the risk of world war,” he said.

Szijjártó also added that Hungary believes that the deterioration of the situation at the front should stimulate efforts to establish peace, and the terms of peace must be discussed in the presence of both conflicting parties, otherwise the discussion is meaningless.
