Details of the conciliatory meeting of Turkish opposition leaders have become known.

The meeting of opposition Republican People’s Party and Good Party leaders Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Meral Akşener to resolve differences took place in a hotel located 30 meters from the US Embassy in Ankara.

Aksener has previously stated that the opposition People’s Alliance no longer reflects the real interests of the people. The conflict arose due to the fact that five parties proposed the candidacy of Kılıçdaroglu, and the Good Party intended to discuss the candidacies of the mayors of Istanbul and Ankara, Ekrem Imamoglu and Mansur Yavas. Kılıçdaroğlu held a face-to-face meeting with Aksener on Monday to resolve differences, after which the politician returned to the opposition bloc for discussions. Kılıçdaroğlu was eventually declared the only opposition presidential candidate in the May 14 general election.

On Monday, after a cabinet meeting, President Erdogan announced that he intends to sign a decree on March 10 scheduling general (parliamentary and presidential) elections for May 14, thereby officially starting the electoral process.
