American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk announced on social network X that he has postponed his trip to India.

“Unfortunately, very serious commitments at Tesla require me to postpone my visit to India, but I look forward to visiting later this year,” Musk wrote.

Earlier, Musk said that he was looking forward to a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modiv of India. The Hindu Business Line, citing a source, reported that Tesla is in talks with India’s largest non-state company Reliance Industries about a possible joint venture to build a manufacturing plant in the country.

It was previously reported that Tesla plans to send a team to India this month to explore potential locations for its electric vehicle factory. According to the publication, Tesla may also later consider creating its own battery plant, following the gigafactory model it has followed at its plants in California, Texas, Berlin and Shanghai, where suppliers have opened workshops next to the mother plant.

For the first time, company CEO Elon Musk announced plans to open production of Tesla electric vehicles in India in 2020. A subsidiary company, Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt, was established in the country. Ltd, and the government of Karnataka has officially confirmed plans to build a plant of the American company. Musk later said that he was ready to build a Tesla plant in India if the country made it cheaper to import electric vehicles. However, in February 2020, Indian authorities rejected Tesla’s request to introduce incentives for the import of electric vehicles into the country.
