Germany to step up use of coal-fired power plants to fill UGS facilities

The German authorities have found a way to save gas and increase the rate of filling underground gas storages (UGS). They are going to achieve this by increasing the use of coal-fired power plants.

“Gas consumption should be further reduced. Instead, more gas should be pumped into underground storage facilities, otherwise there will be a shortage in winter, ”the report of the German Ministry of Economy says.

The head of the department, Robert Habek, in turn, emphasized the importance of implementing a set of necessary measures in order to fill the storage facilities to the maximum in summer and autumn.

Earlier, US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm called on companies around the world that produce oil and gas to increase energy production.
