Hungary will conduct an internal investigation into the transit of money from Ukraine
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar said he had ordered an internal investigation into the detention in March of Ukrainian citizens transporting gold and currency through Hungary.
Hungary’s National Tax and Customs Office (NV) announced on March 6 that it had detained seven Ukrainian citizens on suspicion of money laundering, including a former general of the Ukrainian special services responsible for transporting $40 million, 35 million euros and nine kilograms of gold from Austria to Ukraine. The detainees were deported to Ukraine on the same day. The agency launched an investigation to determine the purpose of transporting money and gold.
“We have ordered an immediate internal investigation at the National Tax and Customs Agency, the Anti-Terrorism Center and other relevant authorities in connection with the case of the Ukrainian golden convoy,” Magyar wrote on the social network.
