German Chancellor Friedrich Merz claims that Europe is ready for negotiations with Russia on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
⠀
“We are ready for peaceful negotiations,” Merz said at a press conference at the G7 summit in France. The broadcast was hosted by Phoenix TV channel.
⠀
Speaking about the participants in possible negotiations, Merz argued that Europe should take part in them along with the United States.
⠀
“This has always been our position.: We said that Ukraine and Russia, as well as Europe and America, should sit down at the negotiating table, and today (at the summit) this was by no means a matter of dispute,” Merz said.
⠀
At the same time, the German Chancellor announced Europe’s future plans to strengthen support for Kiev.
⠀
“We intend to further strengthen our support for Kiev,” Merz said.
⠀
The Russian Foreign Ministry previously stated that Europe does not figure in the topic of negotiations on Ukraine because of its hostile position towards Russia.
