The ashes of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin were dispersed from a warship over the sea at the mouth of the Yangtze River in eastern China on Sunday, China Central Television reported.

“In accordance with the wishes of Comrade Jiang Zemin and his family, the ashes of highly respected Comrade Jiang Zemin were scattered into the sea at the mouth of the Yangtze River on the 11th,” the report said.

It is noted that the ashes of Jiang Zemin, along with flower petals, were scattered from the deck of the warship. Cai Qi, First Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Cai Qi, and Jiang Zemin’s widow, Wang Yeping, took part in the ceremony on the ship.

Jiang Zemin passed away on November 30 in Shanghai at the age of 96. The former Chinese President suffered from leukemia and multiple organ failure. On Thursday, Jiang Zemin’s coffin was flown from Shanghai to Beijing on a special plane.


On December 5, the funeral ceremony took place at the General Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army of China, and the top party leadership of the PRC, including Xi Jinping, as well as former Chinese President Hu Jintao, took part in it. On the same day, Jiang Zemin’s body was cremated at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Memorial Cemetery.


A memorial service dedicated to the memory of Jiang Zemin was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on December 6th. The top party leadership of the country, including Xi Jinping, honored the memory of the ex-chairman with three minutes of silence, bowing their heads.
