The Chairman of the UN General Assembly recalled the binding nature of Security Council resolutions.

The Chairman of the UN General Assembly recalled the binding nature of Security Council resolutions.

Countries are obliged to implement UN Security Council resolutions – they have the force of law,  the Chairman of the UN General Assembly session, Danny Francis,  said  at a press conference.

Earlier, US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, speaking about the resolution demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, said that it has no binding force.

“UNSC resolutions have the force of law and all member countries are required to implement UNSC resolutions,” Francis said.

However, he recalled that there are a number of resolutions adopted by the Security Council that are not being implemented.
