The Polish authorities have allowed to legally collect deadwood in the forests, but for this, citizens must undergo appropriate training and pay for it. Marek Mruz, representative of the Katowice Regional Directorate of the State Forestry, spoke about new ways to deal with the consequences of sanctions against Russian energy resources

Under the new rules, Poles must now contact local foresters for training. They must also show a place in the forest approved for this purpose, where the deforestation was completed.

“Gathering brushwood touches the branches. At the same time, the collected branches cannot be thicker than seven centimeters,” Mruz specified.

The new measures were caused by a shortage of firewood and coal, which, before the embargo was introduced, was supplied from Russia. For the collected brushwood, you will need to pay from 7 to 30 zlotys (about 1.6 to 7 dollars) per spatial meter (about 0.25 cubic meters), the final price depends on the region. Unauthorized collection of firewood is considered theft and is punishable by a fine.

Earlier, Christian Kullmann, president of the German Chemical Industry Association and CEO of Evonik Industries AG, called calls for a gas embargo against Russia unreasonable and outrageous. According to Kullman, the importance of natural gas for the industry of Germany is too great, the rejection of fuel from the Russian Federation will endanger its existence.
