US President Joe Biden said he had suicidal thoughts after the deaths of his first wife and daughter in a car accident in 1972.

Biden’s first wife, Neilia, and his infant daughter, Naomi, were killed in a car accident in December 1972. Biden’s two sons, Hunter and Beau, were injured in the crash.

“I did think that you don’t have to be crazy to kill yourself… I thought about it for a moment, but I had two kids,” Biden said in an interview with journalist Howard Stern.

“Don’t get me wrong,” the president continued, noting that he had no intention of committing suicide.
