China will take a rational but tough stance in response to the new NATO strategy

Beijing will give NATO a restrained but tough response to the alliance’s decision to list China in the new strategic concept as a “systematic challenge”

In the new strategic concept, the military bloc indicated that China was contrary to the interests of the alliance, although there were no additional comments about China in the 2010 strategy.

According to Wang Yiwei, deputy director of the Xi Jinping Institute of Ideas, the North Atlantic Alliance has made containment of China its main goal.

“NATO’s intention is obvious: under the pretext of complying with the so-called norms of the international order, to integrate “small groups” under the leadership of the United States into the framework of NATO and turn the alliance into a strategic instrument of the United States to contain China,” the expert emphasizes.

Wang Gaigai, head of Glory Diplomacy think tank, said Beijing should stick to maintaining a “rational, advantageous, discreetly tough stance” towards the alliance. The PRC should continue to follow its principles and not make compromises and concessions on issues that represent fundamental and economic interests.

“Establishing Sino-US relations will be very difficult, but there is still room for improving relations between China and the EU,” Wang Gaigai added.
