The Canadian Armed Forces are making changes to the charter, which relates to the appearance of military personnel. This was reported on Tuesday on the website of the Canadian Ministry of Defense.

“The changes will come into effect at the beginning of September 2022,” the document says. It clarifies that the current regulations governing the appearance of Canadian soldiers and officers are already outdated and do not correspond to modern realities.

In particular, innovations will affect the hairstyles of military personnel. Since September, both recruits and veterans can wear hair of any length, as well as dye it in any color. It is allowed not to shave the face and to wear beards, sideburns and mustaches of any shape. The main thing is to properly care for them so that they look neat.

Another innovation concerns tattoos, which can now be done on the face, but they should not promote racism, sexism, homophobia and religious and other intolerance. In addition, it is allowed to wear long nails, rings and piercings in the ears, including the so-called tunnel earrings of a certain width.

From September, military personnel will be allowed to wear backpacks on one, but the left shoulder, in order to be able to freely salute with their right hand. Also, men and women will be allowed to wear items of clothing of the opposite sex, including men will be allowed to wear skirts.

The document notes that all innovations are introduced under certain conditions and under certain circumstances, commanders may require subordinates to shave their beards, remove piercings or recolor their hair.
