Long-range missiles and artillery will be the top modernization priority for the US Army following Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. This was announced by the Chief of Staff of the US Army, General James McConville.

He stressed that the “lessons” learned from observing Russia’s special operation in Ukraine showed that the US military had chosen the “right priorities” for its modernization. Thus, the fighting showed the importance of accurate fire over long distances, McConville said.

According to the publication, in fiscal year 2023, the United States will deploy the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) and Mid-Range Capability (MRC) missiles to engage enemy targets at a safe distance.

McConville also noted that the US military is focused on countering drones on the battlefield, as drone activity shows how vulnerable even heavily armored tanks can be to strikes from above.
