Health Canada experts have identified the country’s first cases of infection with a subspecies of the omicron strain of coronavirus BA.2.75.

As of July 6, five cases of BA.2.75 have been provisionally identified in Canada,” a spokesman for the Ministry of Health said.

According to him, these figures can be clarified, as the necessary research is still ongoing. He did not say who was found to have a new subvariant of the omicron strain of coronavirus BA.2.75 and whether it was brought to Canada.

Earlier it was reported that a similar strain, in particular, was found in Australia, Great Britain, Germany, New Zealand and the USA. According to preliminary data, variant BA.2.75 has a stronger ability to overcome the immune system and may be more contagious.
