The Italian association said that the gas reserves in the country will be enough for 45 days of winter

The existing gas reserves in Italy (the storage facilities are almost 83% full), while maintaining the current supply volumes, will be enough for 45 days during the winter consumption peaks. This was announced on Monday by representatives of the association Assoutenti, which protects the rights of consumers.

“With current stocks and receipts, supplier companies will be able to cover the need for gas in the winter period for no more than 45 days, after which chaos will begin with limited consumption, cold houses and a halt in the activities of enterprises and companies,” the association said in a statement posted on its website site.

As indicated, in winter, at the peak of consumption per day, the country needs 400 million cubic meters. Due to additional supplies from Algeria, Azerbaijan and LNG, it was possible to provide 17 billion out of 29 billion cubic meters, which annually came from Russia.

“To the apparent lack of purchases, a complete halt in Russian gas supplies may be added. The combination of these facts will not allow the country to survive the winter, and Italy will go into an energy default in January,” the statement said.

The association calls on the government to “tell the truth about the real situation“, reveal the price at which gas is purchased, and urgently take action, since “the measures taken so far are unsatisfactory.”
