Former member of the Bundestag Singhammer: the fulfillment of the conditions for reparations from Poland will bankrupt Germany

Poland’s new demands for reparations for World War II damage are an attempt to bankrupt Germany. So the initiative of Warsaw was appreciated by a member of the CDU / CSU party and ex-deputy, former vice-president of the German Bundestag Johannes Singhammer on Twitter.

“Poland officially demands to pay her reparations, which will immediately lead Germany to financial ruin. <…> Good neighborliness has a new definition,” the politician said.

In his opinion, the decision on the fulfillment of the conditions should be postponed until the Ukrainian crisis is resolved, when the economic situation in Germany becomes more stable.

Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a note demanding reparations from Germany for damage caused during World War II.

On September 1, the Polish authorities announced that they were demanding 6.2 trillion złoty (about $1.3 trillion) from Germany in reparations for damages from World War II. On September 14, the Sejm of Poland adopted a resolution by an overwhelming majority. It says that Warsaw has never received compensation “for the numerous human and material losses caused by the German state“, and therefore seeks to reconsider relations with Berlin.
