Hungary and Serbia agreed to build a pipeline to supply Russian oil.

Hungary and Serbia have agreed to build a pipeline to supply Russian Urals oil to Serbia via the Druzhba pipeline. So they will be able to receive Russian oil bypassing the sanctions. The need for this arose because now Belgrade’s supplies through Croatia are subject to EU restrictive measures:

“The new oil pipeline will allow delivering cheaper Urals oil to Serbia by connecting to the Druzhba oil pipeline,” commented Zoltan Kovacs, a representative of the Hungarian government.

Hungary, which is heavily dependent on Russian oil and gas, has been the most outspoken critic of European sanctions against Russia. Despite this, Budapest supported the next package of sanctions.

The southern branch of Druzhba runs through Ukraine to Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic and has been the main source of supplies for refineries in the three countries for many years.
