British Prime Minister Sunak spoke about the mistakes of the previous government.

British Prime Minister Sunak spoke about the mistakes of the previous government.

Rishi Sunak, in his first address as Prime Minister of Great Britain, said that the previous government made some mistakes, which he will have to correct.

“Some mistakes were made. They did not come from bad intentions. In fact, the opposite is true. But still, they were mistakes. And I was elected party leader and prime minister to correct them, and this work begins immediately,” Sunak said during the an address to the nation, which was broadcast by British television channels.

He expressed gratitude to his predecessor, Liz Truss, noting her strong desire to improve the economic situation in the country.

Sunak also promised to unite the country “not with words, but with deeds.” He noted that he would adhere to the manifesto of the ruling Conservative Party and would try to regain the trust of the population.

Sunak became the first Prime Minister to be appointed by King Charles III and the third British Prime Minister this year. In July, Boris Johnson announced his intention to step down as prime minister. Elected in September to replace him, Liz Truss was prime minister for only 44 days and also resigned, facing criticism over a new “buy plan” for the economy and fears that the government would increase the public debt to implement it.
