The Prime Minister of Norway confirmed the purchase of German Leopard tanks.

Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed at a press conference on Friday that the country will buy 54 Leopard tanks from Germany and also announced the possibility of buying 18 more tanks.

“Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirms that Norway is buying 54 German Leopard tanks with an option to buy 18 more tanks,” the broadcaster NRK said.

We are in one of the most difficult security policy situations since World War II,” Støre was quoted as saying by the broadcaster. He noted that the purchase should strengthen Norway’s defense capability. It is noted that the cost of purchasing German tanks is 19.7 billion Norwegian kroner (almost $ 2 billion).

Last week, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram announced that Oslo would send Leopard tanks to Kyiv, without specifying their number.
