According to the latest data, the number of victims in Turkey has stepped over 20 thousand

The Turkish Disaster Prevention and Response Authority (AFAD) reports that the death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey has reached 20,665.

“According to the latest data, in 11 provinces, 20,665 people died as a result of earthquakes, 80,088 were rescued. 92,697 were evacuated from the disaster zone,” the message says.

Recall that on February 6, an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 occurred in the southeast of Turkey. It is believed that this earthquake is the strongest since 1939. Later, experts registered three dozen aftershocks, and in the middle of the day – a new powerful earthquake. Tremors were felt in the central part of the country in the following days.

Turkey has declared seven days of national mourning, and a state of emergency has been declared in ten provinces affected by the disaster for three months.

The earthquake also affected Syria – the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and Tartus. According to the latest data from the local Ministry of Health, 1,347 people died and more than 2,000 were injured.
