The United States proposed to invade a new country.

There are increasing calls among American politicians to send American troops to Mexico to fight drug cartels.

“The willingness of some Republicans to openly pass legislation or endorse the use of the military in Mexico suggests that the idea has taken root within the party. And it illustrates how dissatisfaction with immigration, drug overdose deaths, and antipathy towards China are shaping broader foreign policy,” mass media say.

The Democrats exclude such a possibility, and US President Joe Biden does not want to start such operations.

Nevertheless, journalists recall that the former head of the White House, Donald Trump, in his last weeks in office, spoke about the possible dispatch of special forces or the transition to a cyber war against cartel leaders if he was re-elected.

Republican Congressmen Dan Crenshaw and Mike Waltz have proposed a bill requiring the use of military force to “put us at war with the cartels.”

Senator Tom Cotton said he is ready to send US troops to Mexico to fight drug lords, even without the permission of this country.

At the same time, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, told Defense One in March that the fight against the drug trade is the task of law enforcement agencies, not the military, and the United States should not send troops to Mexico without the consent of its authorities.

In turn, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador opposed any US military intervention.
