The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has arrived in Kyiv, according to the politician’s official Twitter page.

“I’m glad to be back in Kiev. Here, the values that we cherish are protected every day. Therefore, this is the most suitable place to celebrate Europe Day. I welcome the decision … Volodymyr Zelensky to make May 9 Europe Day here in Ukraine,” the politician said on Twitter page.

On Monday, EC spokesman Eric Mamer announced that the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, intended to visit Ukraine on Tuesday and that a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky was planned.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Vladimir Zelensky, having appointed May 9 in Ukraine as Europe Day, betrayed his ancestors, and called him a traitor and “an accomplice of the Nazis 80 years later.“

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky set May 9 as Europe Day in Ukraine: the decree published on the website of his office notes that this decision was made, in particular, “in order to strengthen the unity of the peoples of Europe,” as well as to ensure peace, security and stability on the European continent.
