An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 has hit the southern part of Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido, Japan’s meteorological headquarters said.

The source lay at a depth of 50 kilometers. There is no tsunami threat. The maximum force of the shocks was 4 points on a seven-point scale adopted in Japan. This is the second strong earthquake to date. Early on Thursday morning, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Chiba Prefecture, which is adjacent to Tokyo.
