Stoltenberg warned NATO against bilateral security guarantees to Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the provision of bilateral security guarantees by the allies to Ukraine will bring NATO closer to the application of Article 5 of the charter – on attacking the countries of the alliance.

Article 5 of the NATO Charter states: the contracting parties agree that an armed attack on one or more of them in Europe or North America will be considered as an attack on them as a whole.

“If NATO allies, especially large ones, begin to provide Ukraine with security guarantees on a bilateral basis, we will be close to (applying) Article 5,” Stoltenberg said in an interview with Anders Fogh Rasmussen, chairman of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation.

The broadcast was conducted on the NATO website.
The Secretary General noted that the only solution is to increase military support for Ukraine.
