Turkish security authorities have detained 147 people on suspicion of involvement in the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Tuesday following a large-scale operation in the country.

“One hundred forty-seven people were detained as a result of an operation against IS carried out simultaneously in 30 provinces,” the minister said on the social network X. Operations were carried out, including in Istanbul and Antalya.

Yerlikaya noted that the detainees are suspected of participating in hostilities on the side of the terrorist group and of financing IS. During the searches, a large amount of foreign currency and documents were seized.

According to him, from June 1, 2023 to March 25, more than 2.9 thousand suspected of collaborating with ISIS were detained, of which almost 700 were arrested.

Earlier, the media reported the detention of 17 suspects of involvement in ISIS in Istanbul.

Similar operations are carried out in Turkey on a regular basis.
