The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry called the attack on Damascus an example of Israeli irrationality.

Venezuela strongly condemns Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil said, calling the attack “an example of the irrationality” of the Israeli authorities.

On Monday evening, Israeli air forces attacked the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the building was destroyed and there were deaths.

“Venezuela strongly condemns the missile attack carried out by Israel against the diplomatic and consular headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran located in… Damascus, which is another example of the irrationality of the Zionist regime, which has become the greatest source of instability in theregion,” Gil wrote on the social network X.

The minister expressed solidarity with the governments of Iran and Syria, and also expressed condolences to the relatives of the victims.
Earlier, Syrian state television reported that Syrian air defenses were repelling an attack in the vicinity of Damascus, and explosions were heard. Syrian state TV channel Al Ikhbariya later reported that Israel struck a building in the Al-Mezza area in the southwest of the Syrian capital Damascus.

An Israeli missile strike hit a house near the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, and the diplomatic mission building itself was also damaged. A Syrian security source said at least two people were killed in the Israeli strike.

Iranian media reported that the Israeli airstrike hit the building of the consulate general and the residence of the ambassador of the Islamic Republic in Damascus. According to Iranian Nour News, Iran’s Ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari was not injured in the strike. According to the diplomat himself, between five and seven people were killed during the attack. Tasnim also reported that 12 people were injured in the airstrike.

The Iranian side reserves the right to personally respond to Israel’s airstrike on the republic’s consulate general in Damascus, as well as determine how exactly to punish the aggressor, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said on Monday.
