US senators have proposed legislation to ban the Chinese platform TikTok in the country.

Republican Senator Marco Rubio introduced a bill to ban the Chinese platform TikTok in the United States, a bipartisan document published on the senator’s website.

“Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, is required by Chinese law to share its app data with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). spying on Americans,” the accompanying document on Rubio’s website says.

The bill therefore proposes to ban TikTok from operating in the US. The author of the bill, which was also supported by Democratic senators, explains the need for its passage by saying that it will “protect Americans by banning any transfers from any foreign social networks influenced by China, Russia and other foreign countries of concern.”
