Ex-CIA chief saw the risk of terrorist attacks in the United States because of the decision on Afghanistan

The decision of the current US President Joe Biden to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan could provoke a repeat of the September 11, 2001 attacks, said former US Secretary of State and former head of the CIA Mike Pompeo.

“We are more likely to be attacked, as was the case in New York 20 years ago. <…> A year has passed since the time when everyone saw with their own eyes that the Americans were behind. Thirteen Americans died. The Afghans clung to American planes as we fled the country with our tails between our legs,” he said.

On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four planes, two of which crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York, one into the Pentagon, and another crashed near the city of Shanksville, when passengers and crew tried to neutralize the invaders.

In total, more than 2.9 thousand people died as a result of the attack. Al-Qaeda terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack
